Our Story
When a tight knit group of friends and Songwriters come to the conclusion that there just aren’t many opportunities for an independent artist getting started other than the BBQ and Brewery circuit, you get “In A Jam Down By The River”. What started with the offhand comment “we should just throw our own festival!’ Turned into a multiyear venture featuring acts such as John Fullbright, The Deslondes, Grady Spencer & The Work, The Droptines, Caper Allan, The Damn Quails, Scott Ballew and many more. The first year was just some rope lights and folding chairs with a PA that didn’t work only some of the time! Just friends and their dreams with a fearless heart along the Guadalupe River. What has been a true learning experience for everyone involved, we’ve done it all ourselves through a team effort, or maybe it’s more of a “Family” effort.
The music industry can be a tricky thing to navigate. Some blast off, and others sift through the ashes while the rest build their careers brick by brick. One must define their definition of “making it” and here at In A Jam Down By The River that’s exactly what we’ve done. We strive to include artists from every point along that convoluted way to the top. We were founded by artists, ran by artists, and funded by artists. This festival was built for giving those who might not normally have a platform the chance to stand on one and sing their songs to anyone who will listen. We don’t look at the numbers or the draw… we look at the art and the individual. In a world that progressively values money over morals and virality over virtues, we stand for the song and the heart. When you join us down by the river you will be transported into a small community of givers. Because of our grassroots word-of-mouth marketing, In A Jam is a community of likeminded folks who don’t need to be asked to be quite when a Songwriter is playing around the campfire. That being said we also have a very good time in the jam-oriented circles and more rowdy campsites. As a Songwriter or Picker, you will have the opportunity to play your music and make friends that last a lifetime. Every year artists who have never met one another until The Jam end up collaborating together. That is the magic that is In A Jam! Everyone leaves with their cup filled. The Jam is also a place to come out to listen and maybe share a beer with an artist that you are a fan of in a way that you will never get from a standard show. We have had National Touring Acts and the kid from down the street on our stages and everything in between. So, join us and be a part of legend and history in the making.
